RHYS LEWIS 'MIDNIGHT' RECIEVED COMMENDABLE REVIEWS FROM THE MEDIA
BRITISH singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist signed to Decca Records, Rhys Lewis, 31, presents new single, ‘Midnight’ which received commendabel reviews from the media notably as a ‘rising star’ from Evening Standard and ‘utterly enthralling’ quotes The Independent.
On that note, Lewis said, ‘The day before I wrote this song, someone asked me when I might be able to start gigging again. The thought of playing live to a room full of people genuinely gave me goosebumps.”
He added that he was keen to have a track with that kind of energy, something that would feel incredible to sing with a crowd.
“This is the song that I wanted to play live for the first time in a sweaty venue, with a sweaty band to a sweaty crowd, just like old times,” added Lewis.
He felt that after living with these rules and restrictions for so long, it inherited a social cautiousness.
“We became stuck in this strange limbo, waiting for things to get back to normal. During the depths of another lockdown, I realised how much I’d taken the freedom to be spontaneous for granted,” Lewis shared his feelings.
Fot the record, Lewis writes songs about a variety of aspects of his life.
In his debut album, ‘Things I Chose to Remember', the topics that he writes about include the portrayal of men in the media, mental health and his own experiences with relationships.
Many of his songs are about heartbreak, including "When Was The Last Time", "Be Your Man" and "Hurting".
He says that he finds his song "No Right To Love You" difficult to perform because it also dealt with a personal heartbreak.
"I suppose the song is a bit of a trigger for lots of memories and emotions of the breakup…every so often it really hits me again, and the emotion of the song comes flooding back.”
Now, with ‘Midnight’ lets hear what he has to say within the lyrics below:
Midnight:
Are you cold in the morning?
Do you wake up dreaming of the past? Are you numb from the silence?
Are you missing things you’ve never had?
Cos I’m tired of screaming, screaming at the same four walls And I don’t think I’ve been Closer to the edge before
So why don’t we run into the night like the sun won’t ever come up Call it the end of the world
start falling in love
Like it’s the first and the last time
We get to set our hearts on fire
And why don’t we dance up in the stars
Like the darkness doesn’t exist
Over the curve of the earth oh I wanna live
Like it’s the first and the last time we get to set our hearts on fire
Meet me in the midnight
Don’t believe in the future
The moment’s all we ever have
We can sleep when we’re dead cos we know Endless summers never last
And I don’t wanna stop Chasing the night
The higher we can jump The deeper we can dive
So why don’t we run into the night like the sun won’t ever come up Call it the end of the world
start falling in love
Like it’s the first and the last time
We get to set our hearts on fire
And why don’t we dance up in the stars
Like the darkness doesn’t exist
Over the curve of the earth oh I wanna live
Like it’s the first and the last time we get to set our hearts on fire Meet me in the midnight
Meet me in the midnight
And take this great horizon Paint it ultraviolet
Like gravity can’t find us Oh no
Why don’t we run into the night like the sun won’t ever come up Call it the end of the world
start falling in love
Like it’s the first and the last time
We get to set our hearts on fire
And why don’t we dance up in the stars
Like the darkness doesn’t exist
Over the curve of the earth oh I wanna live
Like it’s the first and the last time we get to set our hearts on fire
Meet me in the midnight Meet me in the midnight Meet me in the midnight Meet me in the midnight
