LONDON-based singer-songwriter, producer and DJ, SG Lewis, shares the next taste of his forthcoming second album with ‘Lifetime’, a soaring lovestruck classic with lead vocals from SG Lewis himself. Watch the wedding themed accompanying video here.
‘Lifetime’ hinges on head-nodding guitar, handclaps, and a gorgeous refrain laced with cinematic strings.
Inspired by “yacht rock” favorites Steely Dan and Hall and Oates, it builds towards the soaring and sweet call-and-response, “I’ve waited for a lifetime...to tell you I love you.”
Speaking on the track, SG Lewis explains: “I think that ‘Lifetime’ could be my favourite record I’ve ever made. I wrote it with my friends Ed Drewett, Reuben James and J Moon late one night at Decoy Studios, and the song is largely about Ed and his wife. It’s a song that channels inspiration from a lot of the music I grew up listening to, and holds a very special place in my heart.”
‘Lifetime’ follows the news of SG Lewis’ second full-length album AudioLust & HigherLove, in which the singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer builds on the kaleidoscopic future-disco of his debut album times, in an expansive and ambitious record made of two halves: on one end of the spectrum, he crafts the kind of nocturnal bangers that dancefloors, underground raves, pool parties, and festivals subsist on.
On the other end, he accesses a higher level of timeless pop ecstasy anchored by just the right amount of breezy hook-laden rock, organic instrumentation, and vocal eloquence. He suits one mood to the adrenaline rush of your wildest night out, and he tailors another to the blissful ride home at sunrise.
It’s a diverse collection of classic but deeply contemporary cuts from one of the richest production talents of the last decade and includes a blockbuster collection of guests including the likes Tove Lo, Ty Dolla $ign, Lucky Daye, plus many more to be announced alongside SG’s own vocals which are featured more prominently than ever before.
SG Lewis has cemented his status as one music’s most sought after producers, collaborating with the likes of Elton John, Clairo, Khalid, Aluna, Victoria Monet, Raye, Ray BLK, The Neptunes/N.E.R.D’s Chad Hugo, Gerd Janson, Conducta + many more across his illustrious career.
His debut album times, released last year, saw one of modern pop’s secret weapons stepping out front and centre with widespread critical acclaim from the likes of The Guardian, NME, Evening Standard, Clash, GQ, Notion, Mixmag + many more.
LP highlight track ‘Chemicals’ amassed over 55 million Spotify streams and counting, catapulting SG Lewis’ total stream count to over 1.4 billion and most recently, Louis Vuitton launched their pre-Fall campaign with Soulwax’s remix of ‘Impact’ (featuring Robyn & Channel Tres).
Behind the scenes, SG Lewis produced Dave’s seminal breakout track ‘100M’s’ and co-wrote ‘Hallucinate’ for Dua Lipa’s record-smashing number one album, Future Nostalgia.
That rare UK artist capable of making a splash on both sides of the Atlantic (and beyond), SG Lewis is about to round off his biggest US tour to date (50,000 tickets), which culminates in a landmark show at LA’s Greek Theatre night.

Duality drives dynamics in all artforms. By occupying opposing extremes, SG Lewis finds balance in his music. On one end of the spectrum, he crafts the kind of nocturnal bangers that dancefloors, underground raves, pool parties, and festivals subsist on.
On the other end of the spectrum, he accesses a higher level of timeless pop ecstasy anchored by just the right amount of breezy hook-laden rock, organic instrumentation, and vocal eloquence. He suits one mood to the adrenaline rush of your wildest night out, and he tailors another to the blissful ride home at sunrise. The singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer unlocks a new level of duality on his second full-length album, AudioLust & HigherLove.
“The album is clearly split into two worlds,” he observes. “AudioLust is the darker, lusty, infatuated, short-lived, and ego-driven version of love. The second half represents a much deeper, actualized, and fulfilled version of love. Songs fall on either half of the record.”
He has quietly owned this space since his emergence in 2015. He went from a formative gig as resident DJ at the world-renowned Chibuku nightclub in Liverpool to multiple appearances at top festivals such as Coachella and a primetime spot at Glastonbury. Along the way, he served up music at a prolific pace with a series of EPs, including Shivers [2015], Yours [2016], Dusk [2018], Dark [2018], and Dawn [2019]. In between, he ignited collabs with Clairo, Gallant, Khalid, Victoria Monet, AlunaGeorge, and more. During 2021, he presented his full-length debut, Times, powered by anthems such as “Feed The Fire” [feat. Lucky Daye], “One More” [feat. Nile Rodgers], and “Impact” [feat. Robyn & Channel Tres].
The standout “Chemicals'' amassed over 55 million Spotify streams and counting. Beyond rave reviews from NME, Clash, and more, Pitchfork attested, “Times is compact and glossy, competent and earnest.” Further acclaim came from The Guardian, GQ, Evening Standard, Notion, DIY, and DORK, while he performed on The Late Late Show with James Corden. Resident Advisor also touted his 2022 Coachella set as its “Mix of the Day.” Behind the scenes, he also co-wrote and produced “Hallucinate” for Dua Lipa’s multiplatinum blockbuster Future Nostalgia, “and “Hot N Heavy” for Jessie Ware’s What’s Your Pleasure? Not to mention, Sir Elton John tapped him for “Orbit” on The Lockdown Sessions, and they both appeared together as part of a dual interview in PAPER. To date, his total streams have eclipsed 1.4 billion and counting.
Along the way, he expanded his sonic and creative palette for what would eventually become AudioLust & HigherLove. Working out of studios throughout the UK, he collaborated with a strong cohort of friends who functioned similarly to a band, contributing live keys, bass, and guitar. Ed Drewett, TEED (Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs], Reuben James, Jay Moon, Frances, and Julian Bunetta comprised this creative trust.
“We really acted like a band,” he affirms. “I’d be producing on the laptop, and I’d sing on the microphone right there. I’ve never recorded like this.”
He opted to release music in a series of double A-side singles in order to illustrate both halves of the album from the jump.
“The songs play off each other like a yin and yang, so I wanted those worlds to live parallel,” he notes. “I didn’t want to release a song from one side of the record at a time, because I needed everyone to hear the whole picture.”
He introduces the album with the two-pack of “Missing You” and “Something About Your Love.” Right out of the gate, “Missing You” reaches for dancefloor glory with its shimmering synths and neon bass line, nodding to eighties new wave with a chantable chorus, “I’m not missing you like I’m supposed to.”
“Conceptually, it felt like the perfect introduction,” he observes. “It’s a story about temptation and dwindling fear. Your eyes are wandering.”
On the flip side, “Something About Your Love” fuses a funk-inflected bass line and tambourine with a luminous refrain.
“It’s no secret I’m a massive Daft Punk fan,” he smiles. “It’s the closest thing I’ve ever made to a tribute to them. I was listening to Discovery a lot, and there’s a specific technique to it. I chopped up the sample of these seventies keys and drums. It came together easily. Lyrically, It’s a pure confession of admiration for someone. It’s the perfect contrast to ‘Missing You’.”
Then, there’s “Call On Me” with Tove Lo. The multiplatinum Swedish superstar delivers a seismic vocal performance as she promises, “I keep on coming back for your body.” Keys glisten in the glow of danceable production composed alongside TEED.
“I tried to do a song in the vein of ‘You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)’,” he reveals. “It captures the feeling of lust before any regrets or breakdown in those emotions. It’s just about lusting after someone. Tove ran with the idea, and it’s a really fun summer record.”
Standing out as another A-side single from the center of HigherLove, “Vibe Like This” [feat. Lucky Daye & Ty Dolla $ign] strikes the perfect balance between old school seventies and eighties influences and future-facing modern production. Synths shimmer as Lucky Daye and Ty Dolla $ign lock into a slick and smooth call-and-response highlighted by the unshakable hook.
“I was hanging with my friend Conor Albert in London,” he recalls. “We made a few ideas that captured some of the feel from the seventies and eighties. Conor is an unbelievable musician, so we were running around the studio and jamming on anything we could get our hands on. Fast forward, I’m in a session with Ty and Lucky. I play them a rough idea of ‘Vibe Like This’. Straight away, they were taking turns on the mic until we had the whole thing written. We listened to it over and over for an hour or so. To me, it’s about the feeling of finding someone special and the way it can take you completely by surprise.”
Stretching past the eight-minute mark, the instrumental “Epiphany” twists and turns through funkified grooves and a head-nodding beat towards a sonic catharsis. It offers the perfect complement to the Tove Lo-assisted banger as its double A-Side.
“It’s got a psychedelic vibe,” he observes. “TEED and I were just jamming in the studio. Pretty much everything you hear is live. It represents a shift in perspective and changing direction. It signifies the moment of realization you’re stuck in toxic patterns and need to arrive at something more sustainable and fulfilling, which is real love and not lust.”
Then, there’s “Fever Dreamer” [feat. Charlotte Day Wilson & Channel Tres]. Its union of a propulsive percussion and an orchestral hum gives way to a disco-style refrain. “There’s a sensuality to the song,” he adds. “The feeling hits you like a rush.”
“Lifetime” hinges on head-nodding guitar, handclaps, and a gorgeous refrain laced with heavenly harmonies and cinematic strings. Inspired by “yacht rock” favorites a la Steely Dan and Hall and Oates, it builds towards the soaring and sweet call-and-response, “I’ve waited for a lifetime...to tell you I love you.”
“I wanted to make a song you could play at weddings, but still feels contemporary,” he explains. “It’s about a guy who finally confesses his love for a girl who’s a friend after 15 years or something, and she confesses back. It’s my version of yacht rock for sure!”
In the end, SG Lewis shines from every angle on AudioLust & HigherLove.
“I’m in an exciting position,” he leaves off. “I’ll try my hand at anything, whether it’s producing, writing, singing, or DJing. The music is simply a combination of everything. It’s every side of who I am.”
