LETS HAVOC THE KULIT WAYANG CULTURAL FESTIVAL, MALIKA MUSIC 12 APRIL!
KUALA LUMPUR, March 2025 – The upcoming Kulit Wayang Cultural Festival 2025 and its accompanying Malika Music Festival 2025 were officially unveiled at a press conference held at Grotto Hall @ Confetti KL in Mines 2 recently.
The two-day cultural festival, set to take place on April 12 and 13, 2025, at The Landing @ KL Base in Sungai Besi, is a large-scale promotional event for the horror mystery film Kulit Wayang.
Unlike conventional movie launches, the festival aims to create an immersive experience that integrates various elements, including a movie launch and trailer premiere, a celebrity fun run, a cultural showcase, and a music festival.
The highlight of the first day will be the Malika Music Festival, featuring performances by renowned Malaysian and Indonesian artists.
As the co-producer of Kulit Wayang and organizer of the festival, EMT Ventures Sdn Bhd aims to redefine film promotions by making them accessible to the public.
Penny Chan, Director of EMT Ventures, emphasized that traditional movie launches are often limited to media coverage, whereas this festival transforms the experience into a community-driven celebration.
She noted that with the company’s expertise in large-scale event management and a strategic approach to brand partnerships, the festival is expected to deliver a high-impact experience.
The event is also supported by FINAS (National Film Development Corporation Malaysia) and MOTAC (Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture).
A key attraction of the festival is its celebration of Malaysian heritage and culture.
Attendees will have the opportunity to experience traditional music and dance performances, including Gamelan, Dikir Barat, Inang, and Zapin.
Various interactive workshops, such as Batik painting and Wau making, will allow visitors to engage with traditional crafts.
Families can also enjoy classic traditional games, including Congkak, Batu Seremban, and Gasing.
Adding to the cultural experience, a special Wayang Kulit performance featuring lead actors Fattah Amin and Pekin Ibrahim will showcase the essence of the film.
More than 100 vendors are expected to participate, offering a variety of traditional crafts, merchandise, and local delicacies such as Nasi Lemak, Satay, and Rendang.
The Malika Music Festival, taking place on April 12, will feature an exciting lineup of artists from both Malaysia and Indonesia.
Among the performers are Fattah Amin, Indonesian pop icons Nidji, Malaysian pop-punk band Bunkface, indie pioneers OAG, and rock bands Krusty, Steeltoe Solutions, and Conflict Crisis.
The performances will take place at The Hangar Stage, which will be equipped with a 40-foot LED screen to enhance the concert experience.
One of the festival’s most unique attractions is the “Run with the Artists!” fun run, which offers participants a chance to join the stars of Kulit Wayang in a 3km celebrity fun run or a 10km race.
This initiative combines fitness, entertainment, and fan engagement, creating a one-of-a-kind experience for attendees. Organizers anticipate a turnout of up to 13,000 participants, including 5,000 fun runners from Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.
At the heart of the festival is the film Kulit Wayang, a Malaysian horror mystery (PG-13) directed by Dain Said, the filmmaker behind Dukun, Bunohan, Harum Malam, and Interchange.
The film, which will be released in over 50 cinemas across Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei on May 1, 2025, explores the eerie and mysterious world of Wayang Kulit, a traditional Kelantanese shadow puppet performance that was banned for 28 years.
The film stars Fattah Amin, one of Malaysia’s most celebrated actors with a massive social media following, alongside Pekin Ibrahim, an award-winning actor known for his performances in Bunohan and Mat Moto.
Indonesian actress Reynavenzka Retno Ayu, known for her roles in Taring and Brokenhearts, and child star Jennaira Kamaratih Jiwa also play significant roles in the film.
Set in the 1980s, Kulit Wayang follows a grieving puppet master who embarks on a journey to uncover the truth behind his daughter’s mysterious death. When a mother and daughter from Indonesia visit his seaside village, they stumble upon an ancient puppet with supernatural ties, leading to a chilling adventure rooted in Malaysian folklore and cultural traditions.
Tickets for the Kulit Wayang Cultural Festival are priced at RM9.90 for Day 2 access, while the 3km fun run is available for RM41 and the 10km run for RM49, both of which include access to the festival.
Tickets for the Malika Music Festival are priced at RM99 for General Admission and RM159 for VIP passes. They can be purchased online at Ticketmelon for the festival and fun run, and at Ticketmelon for the music festival.
The festival is supported by a host of sponsors, including Check Hup, HoneyB, Lafre, Yeo’s, RT Pastry, Beauterfly, GJ, and Speed 2.0. Organizers have laid out a strategic plan to ensure a successful and engaging event, blending cultural appreciation, entertainment, and community involvement.
With a strong lineup of activities and performances, the Kulit Wayang Cultural Festival 2025 is set to be a groundbreaking celebration of Malaysian heritage, film, and music.
